My boys and I are huge Dr. Seuss fans. The nonsensical rhymes and creative stories make us giggle and tongue-tied with all those tongue twisters!
We're blessed to have a large number of Dr. Seuss titles in our library. It's hard to pick a favorite but Fox in Socks is definitely on our Top Ten list. We're so excited to share thelearning fun we have with it!
Our Experiences with This Dr. Seuss Book
Before I get to our learning fun with this particular Dr. Seuss book, I want to share a little story...
I've read Dr. Seuss books with each of my boys since they were babies. One of our go-to books for little ones has always been Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?
As each boygets older, we expand upon their initial Dr. Seuss experience with progressively more advanced titles. Hop on Pop and The Cat In The Hat are two favorites.
And I noticed an interesting occurrencewhen my older boys arrived at the age where they start to sound out letters and words. My boys never stumbled over odd letter combinations. They breezed through reading letter combinations like "thl" and "brz". (I probably find it so interesting because I have to take my time and often repeat trying to get out such nonsense words!)
My older two boys, Captain and Professor, both attended public school for a few years. At the beginning and end of their Kindergarten years, they were given tests to assess their level and progress. I vividly remember sitting at their parent-teacher conferences and their teachers telling me how they scored off the charts in reading nonsense words.
Honestly, I wasn't that surprised. I like to think that a lot of it has to do with their early and continued exposure to Dr. Seuss books.

Learning Fun with Fox In Socks by Dr. Seuss
As I searched for fun Dr. Seuss activities and crafts to do with my boys, I created a Pinterest board. Follow along as I add the amazingly wonderful ideas others have to share!
I was having a hard time finding ideas for one of our favorite books, Fox In Socks. I wanted to dig deeper into this book with my boys (plus foxes are popular right now). Not one to be deterred, I decided to create some learning fun for my boys and you!
Fox in Socks Paperclip Bookmark Craft
This fox craft is super simple and adorable!
With little prep work (print out the free printable pack-available to Rock Your Homeschool subscribers) and supplies, your kids will soon have a cute clip for use in reading and more.

- free printable pack
- washi tape
- scissors
- cardstock for printing (optional)
Simply cut the fox head out and use washi tape (or glue) to adhere to the paper clip.
OR simply cut out the bookmarks and use as-is. My boys and I cut an opening at the fox's mouth and used to clip onto our books. Super easy, cute, and fun!
Free Fox In Socks Printable Pack
I created this printable pack for use during our read-aloud of Fox In Socks. I also use for comprehension questions, sequencing, and review.
After printing this pack, I laminate for durability and reuse. I cut the individual cards and place velcro on the back to use with our felt storyboard. The boys love to find and add the cards to the board as we read along.

- 6 bookmarks-We either cut around the bottom of the fox's head (leaving top attached) or used to make paper clip bookmarks.
