I've been a student at Van Alstyne High School of VAHS for the past 4 years. The school has not truly been that bad but it really could have been better. The teachers are great but the curriculum and the administration are atrocious. They don't have any real regard for the safety of their students. I wish they would allow us more days off and allow the teachers to assign less homework. Kids are also always participating in illegal activity in the bathroom and it never gets adressed.

The classes are not very advanced unless you take Dual Credit or AP. The Admin is not very supportive. I am very ready to graduate to say the least.

Van Alstyne Independent School District has made me the person I am today. I have grown up in Van Alstyne, Texas. Van Alstyne is a great small-town community about 15 to 20 miles north of Mckinney and south of Sherman. I have built great friendships and connections while attending Van Alstyne. As a student, I was involved in Student Senate, Volleyball, Track & Field, Cheerleading, Golf, and Student Council. Students in Van Alstyne ISD are very involved. As far as academics go, Van Alstyne High School has many outstanding excelling students. Our teachers and administration help us to be the best person, classmate, and student we can be. If you are looking to send your child to a safe, fun, and healthy environment, Van Alstyne ISD is the best place to put your kid.

I love Van Alstyne because it is such a small school and I have lived here all my life. I have gotten to watch the district grow, along with all the departments that I’m involved it. I have also gotten to participate in so many activities, because of the small school culture.

Just a small-town school district in the midst of a population boom. There is not much that makes the district stand out from other public schools, but the town's community is strong and connected. Students and adults partake in all the seasonal festivities and delight it comes with being together. Great emphasis is placed on their Friday night lights where the stadium's lights can be seen even from the highway the town sits on. All in all, the school district does its job quite well for the Texas small-town setting.

Horrible environment for children with disabilities and their families. Most staff are not supportive or practice de-escalating techniques. Some Staff that constantly have kids melt down, they restrain rather than addressing the staff member. Some staff members presses charges on kids with disabilities. Lack of adding services and support.

Van Alstyne is a great school district to grow up in. Because of it's smaller size, it allows the students to have a closer connection and it makes it seem like a family. I love how there are a lot of teachers who are always ready to answer questions and give help when needed. Even when my older brother was going there, the principal and other staff helped solve some bullying issues he had. Even if they have rules that seem strict, they are good about having just discipline and keeping students on track.

Great educational experience! Some problems with teachers, but what school doesn't;t have those kind of problems. I would recommend Van Alstyne to anyone.

Being a student here has been an interesting experience. Some of the teachers have a drive to better the students and prepare for college. However, there are a lot of politics, more than I've seen at my other school in a larger district. And a lack of professionalism among the teaching staff and administration. There are a lot of organizations to get involved in as a student, I personally recommend looking into the athletic training program and ready set teach. They are some of the strongest programs to help you succeed after leaving high school. A paticular thing I am adomant about at this school is how the Special Education program is. Working with the teachers in that class have helped shaped my idea of what I want to do and encourage growth to all the students in their class.

All in all, this school is a great place to grow up in. However, recent staff changes has led to the senior class being relieved of privileges such as late arrival and early dismissal so that the school could earn more money. If you or your child doesn't want to be screwed over, don't come here.

Although I small town, Van Alstyne has so much to offer through the great faculty and programs. Perhaps one of the best programs within the district is the band program which had displayed excellence year after year.
Overall, the school is made great by its people and the ideals that the teachers present to their students in preparation for the adult world.
